💥 starting a rumour Calla is short for California 🌶️

Okay to be so real though, I spent this entire class beating myself up. I’ve just been throwing absolute knockout punches at myself all week.

In the words of @christieleemanning “You can’t think your way out of overthinking. You can’t train your way out of never being afraid again, of not being good enough. I don’t think you can become good enough so that you are immune to that thought or that fear.”

So this is me just appreciating this video for what it is: me doing the best I could on that specific day, and doing one of my favourite things, with some of my favourite people, in one of my favourite classes. And although you can’t train your way out of never being afraid again, I did train my way through it, and danced in spite of it.

And it really got me thinking of all the younger mes I have been, and all the older mes I look forward to becoming.

I wasn’t going to post this video because there are a couple mistakes, and I go out of frame a couple times etc… but in the spirit of “letting go of the things that don’t serve me no more”, here it is. There is so much about this video that is so special to me and that I want to share.

- being seen.
- trusting myself.
- taking up space.
- jazz.
- Rachel Leigh Dolan class and choreography. (And other classes that make me excited to learn)

OUT:
- being scared to make mistakes.
- hiding.
- second guessing myself (better to make the mistake and be wrong.)
- feeling undeserving of space and making myself small.
- unsupportive and unwelcoming classes.

Standing in the front during the first filming go around was a big deal for me. It was at the very last moment before the choreography started that I saw the space was empty and made a split second decision to move there. And afterwards I did not feel good about it. I felt panicked, embarrassed, and pins and needles from the top of my scalp to the bottoms of my feet and took a quick second in the hall and then came back and tried again (not captured). When I watched the video I expected to never want to be filmed again. Instead I’m really proud of it, and excited to keep learning and for whatever the next video is. It’s hard for me to watch this video and not only see the mistakes, but I’ve worked to see the great parts as well, and as a whole I’m really proud of it! I love to dance, and although filming and watching it back can be hard, I’m so glad this moment was captured. Excited to keep learning, growing, and making mistakes in 2024. ✨
